We’ll help you succeed

We’re looking for an experienced and motivated Applications Manager to join our End User Technology Applications Team. The team is responsible for the suite of business applications used across all BDO UK offices, ranging from standard Microsoft Office and iManage Document Management products through to more bespoke Tax and Accounting products developed both internally and purchased from third party vendors. The team’s strategy is to be proactive and to ‘Engage, Maintain, Support, Review’. We ‘engage’ with our clients and vendors, we ‘support’ our applications and each other, we ‘maintain’ our applications to vendor and business standards, and we ‘review’ to ensure our applications meet the ongoing needs of the business and that we’re adopting best use of technology.

Reporting to the End User Technology Senior Manager, the role is to manage the teams Application Analysts and to deliver business application life cycles to the highest standard and to the team’s strategy. You will be expected to drive team initiatives and to further build and develop relationships within IT, with our business users and with our vendors.

You’ll also:

  • Develop and drive the application portfolio; utilising tools to map and track the lifecycle of our applications
  • Develop policies, tools and templates for the management and governance of our applications
  • Drive continuous improvement, aligning with our business and IT strategy
  • Utilise tools and report to monitor application management, including usage tracking, analytics and performance
  • Build and maintain knowledge and understanding of our applications. Not just technically, but how they are used by our business users to help shape best use and practice.
  • Build and maintain relationships with all key IT and business application stakeholders, and act as a trusted advisor.
  • Regularly review and evaluate opportunities to improve best practices and utilising improvements in technology to achieve better management of our applications
  • You will be responsible for ensuring Applications Analysts take ownership and responsibility to ensure they remain stable and performant through an effective maintenance and upgrade plan.
  • Drive initiatives to improve the Applications Team offering and the end user experience
  • Develop and maintain the Application Team’s relationship with the IT Service Desk and ensure they have the knowledge and tools to provide a quality service.
  • Maintain, develop and widen the relationships that the Applications Team has with our business customers, internal IT teams and application vendors.
  • Ensure we extract value from our application spend, reviewing usage and licensing costs as well as reducing parallel applications.
  • Review new technologies and automations that could benefit the use of our applications and to help deliver greater efficiencies to our business users
  • Manage 3rd line support, ensuring incidents and service requests are dealt with in a timely and professional manner.
  • Be responsible for the manager approval of Applications Team changes.

  • Experience in the management of individuals, motivating and leading a team
  • Excellent knowledge and experience of application support and ownership.
  • You will need to have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal to support Client relationship management, Vendor & license management, inc. SAAS and PAAS offerings, Application portfolio management and Knowledge and understanding of Business Analysis fundamentals desirable.
  • Experience in large IT projects and understanding of project methodologies – both Waterfall and Agile.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Change approval and ITIL process.
  • A proactive approach and ability to identify areas of improvement, undertaking analysis to revise internal or business process, adopting the use of automation and other technologies to generate efficiency and cost savings.
  • ITIL certification desirable
  • Technical knowledge desirable of key IT applications and systems including: Application installation process, inc. msi installer technology; Click to Run, Application packaging and deployment technologies including Microsoft SCCM and Intune, Understanding of Microsoft Windows Server, IIS, SQL, Active Directory, Group Policy, Intune, Windows 10 physical and virtual desktop environments, Microsoft Azure Portal, AAD, M365 and Experience of Incident Management Systems (Service Now preferable)
