At BDO, we believe that creating a sustainable future starts with empowering our people. Whether it’s tackling climate change by reducing emissions or supporting nature and biodiversity locally through volunteering, we’re proud of the collective efforts driving our environmental goals forward.
Our commitment to Net-Zero by 2050 is ambitious, but it’s a journey we’re taking together—innovating, collaborating, and making sustainability part of how we work, every day.
Building a Sustainable Workplace
We’re not just setting targets; we’re delivering results. Since our baseline year, we’ve achieved a 91.1% reduction in Scope 1 and 2* emissions – which refer to the direct emissions we produce, like fuel used in company vehicles (Scope 1), and the indirect emissions from energy we purchase, such as electricity for our offices (Scope 2). This progress is driven by smart, sustainable choices that create spaces where people can thrive.
Take our Manchester Eden office, for example. As one of the UK’s most sustainable office buildings, it features a BREEAM Outstanding rating, a living green wall, and carefully repurposed materials—proving that great workplaces can also prioritise sustainability. Looking ahead, our new London office, opening in 2027, will continue this commitment, setting a new standard for a workspace designed for the future.
Flexible working is another way we’re making an impact. Through our WORKABLE approach, our people are empowered to work smarter and travel less when it makes sense, reducing unnecessary carbon emissions while enhancing collaboration and work-life balance.

Sustainability: Everyone Has a Role to Play
At BDO, we know that meaningful change happens when everyone is engaged. That’s why sustainability is a shared responsibility across the firm, and we’re proud to support employee-led initiatives that make a real difference.
Lucy, a standout winner of our Social Impact Award, exemplifies this spirit. Her leadership in driving environmental initiatives has inspired colleagues across the firm to take action. Our people have also contributed directly to greener communities. For example, teams recently volunteered with One Tree Per Child, helping maintain thousands of saplings to support local biodiversity and ensure healthier spaces for future generations.
We’re also giving our people the tools to make sustainable choices every day. From sustainability e-learning modules to opportunities like electric vehicle leasing and cycle-to-work schemes, we make it easier to contribute to a greener future—individually and collectively.
Why Sustainability Matters at BDO
Sustainability at BDO is about more than hitting targets—it’s about building a culture where every action has purpose and every voice can make a difference. From creating eco-friendly offices to celebrating employee achievements, we’re fostering an environment where people can be proud of the impact they’re making, both at work and beyond.
We know that our success as a firm is linked to the success of our people and the world we all share. That’s why we’re investing in a future that’s sustainable, innovative, and collaborative—one where everyone has a role to play.
