Show us what you can bring

We're interested in what makes you, you - your experience, perspective, strengths and the way you approach things. Our recruitment process is designed to help us understand what you can bring to BDO, while giving you the chance to get to know us too.
What the process looks like will depend on the role, but we’ll make sure you know what to expect along the way.
What we look for
We welcome people from different backgrounds, with different experiences and ways of thinking. What matters is how you work with others, make decisions, communicate, respond to change and keep developing.

Achieving My Potential (AMP)

We assess candidates against our Achieving My Potential framework – AMP, which sets out the behaviours and capabilities we look for at BDO.

Our core competencies include:
  • Leading Self & Others: understanding yourself and your impact on others, while creating the conditions for others to develop, contribute and perform at their best.
  • Driving Growth: building strong relationships, communicating with impact and creating value for clients, colleagues and the firm.
  • Harnessing Business Thinking: applying commercial insight, professional judgement and high standards to make sound decisions and deliver high-quality outcomes aligned to firm priorities.
  • Activating Innovation & Change: embracing new thinking, technology and insight to solve problems, improve how we work and adapt to change with confidence.
We’ll also consider the technical skills and knowledge relevant to the role and level you’re applying for.

Your online application

Your candidate profile and application should take around 15 minutes to complete. You’ll need an electronic copy of your CV and, if you’re studying towards a qualification, copies of your transcripts.
Your CV should cover your academic qualifications and employment history, alongside the achievements and experience most relevant to the role. Make sure you account for any gaps in your employment history.
If the role requires a training contract, you’ll also need to provide your full exam transcript.

What to expect

Our selection process varies depending on the role, but there are some stages you may come across.
Application review
One of our recruitment team will review your application against the skills and experience needed for the role. If you progress, you’ll have a dedicated recruitment adviser to guide you through the rest of the process.
Telephone interview
Your recruitment adviser will talk you through the role and get to know more about your experience, motivations and how you approach your work.
Interviews and skills assessments
Depending on the stream and level you’re applying for, you may have further competency-based interviews and a skills assessment.
Our interviews use the AMP framework to help us understand your experience and approach consistently. You can use the STAR method – Situation, Task, Action, Result – to help structure your answers.

Using AI during your application

Use AI to prepare. Keep your responses your own.

We’re happy for you to use AI tools to help you prepare, research BDO, organise your thinking and improve the clarity of your application.
You can use AI to:
  • Practise interview questions and prepare for conversations
  • Research BDO
  • Summarise application or assessment guidance
  • Refine your application so your experience comes across clearly
When it comes to assessments and interviews, we want to understand your own skills, thinking and responses.
Don’t use AI to:
  • Complete or assist with online assessments
  • Generate answers during interviews or assessment exercises
  • Invent or misrepresent experience, skills or achievements
AI should support what you can do, not do it for you. Using it in a way that replaces your responses or gives you an unfair advantage may result in removal from the recruitment process.

The offer

If you're offered a role, your recruiter will contact you directly with your formal offer of employment.
And if you're not offered the role you originally applied for, we may consider whether your skills and experience could be a good fit elsewhere at BDO. If there's another opportunity that could suit you, our recruitment team will talk it through with you.
