Zaheer was raised in Dubai, where he spent his early years until the Gulf War prompted his family to return to Pakistan. It was in Pakistan that Zaheer completed his education, deeply influenced by his culture, faith, and heritage. At 19, driven by determination, he moved to the UK to start a new life for himself. From these humble beginnings, Zaheer worked in a cinema, selling popcorn to make ends meet in the early days. His strong work ethic quickly saw him rise through the ranks, becoming the youngest manager in the company.

Zaheer’s career took a significant turn when he joined the police force, a role that felt like a dream come true given his aspirations to make a difference in local communities. Despite the challenges, he thrived, earning commendations for his dedication and hard work. Transitioning to the private sector, Zaheer focused on cultivating diversity, equity, and inclusion, helping organisations build strategies that reflect the diverse world we live in. His efforts have spanned various sectors, including pharmaceuticals and sports, even contributing to diversity initiatives with the Premier League.

Over the years, Zaheer has received numerous honours, from commendations in the police force to an honorary doctorate and even meeting individuals like the Pope and Malala Yousafzai. For him, whilst these are incredible experiences and recognition of his hard work, they serve more as reminders of the extraordinary things that can be achieved when we support each other. Today, Zaheer is proud to be part of a team at BDO that believes in unity and the power of coming together to make a difference. He’s been encouraged by the sentiment that within the team, it doesn’t matter what background, abilities, or social status people hold, there is a togetherness that BDO employees are all looking to build a better future, together.
