Internal Communications Manager

Our Communications and Corporate Affairs team strives to be a gold-standard team, enabling purpose-led conversations, true to our character. Reporting directly to the Leadership Team, the team advises the firm on external and internal communications programmes. This includes a communications programme for our Managing Partner, strategic announcements, PR campaigns and internal communications campaigns to drive behaviour change. You’ll be someone who is both comfortable working proactively and managing your own tasks, as well as confident collaborating with others and communicating regularly with senior managers, directors, and BDO’s partners to help businesses effectively. You’ll be encouraged to identify and draw attention to opportunities for enhancing our delivery and providing additional services to organisations we work with.

We're on the lookout for an Internal Communications Manager to join our firmwide Internal Communications team. This role is all about making sure our communications are seamless, genuine, and effective across all operational functions.

As part of the firmwide communications team, you'll plan and manage the timely delivery of operational communications including HR, IT, Finance and more. You'll handle internal communication for strategic and business-as-usual projects.

You'll report to the Head of Internal Communications.

Responsibilities of the role will be:

  • Strategic internal communications: Understand the firm's vision, strategy, and internal communications approach. Use this knowledge to inform your planning and as a foundation for all your work.
  • Operational communications: Develop and deliver strategies and plans for operational functions. Ensure these align with the broader internal communications agenda, providing targeted, relevant, and timely communications that inform and inspire.
  • Stakeholder management: Advise and guide key stakeholders in developing and delivering their communications programmes. Support them in creating and delivering creative communications plans to educate our people and drive behaviour change. Keep stakeholders informed of activity, progress, challenges and results.
  • Strategic relationships: Collaborate with our operations teams, offering expert communication counsel to support delivery of desired business outcomes.
  • Content development: Create and deliver quality content through various firmwide channels, including newsletters, our intranet and Viva Engage.
  • Communication campaigns: Motivate firmwide audiences to engage with priority communications. Develop and deliver internal communications campaigns and content to driven priorities and projects, ensuring the right message reaches the right audience through the right channel such as events, the intranet, videos, newsletter and digital signage.
  • Planning and coordination: Contribute to Internal Communications plans to continuously improve internal communications.
  • Channel management: Operate a comprehensive channel matrix. Ensure our firmwide communications channels are fit-for-purpose and future-ready, particularly our intranet and internal social media network.

You'll be someone with:

  • Experience in designing and implementing internal communications strategies and plans
  • Proven track record in delivering effective communications programmes that produce tangible results or change
  • A thorough understanding of the internal communications channel mix, with experience of communications technologies and channels including Poppulo, SharePoint and Viva Engage
  • Initiative in drafting first communications, starting new projects and seeking innovative solutions to complex challenges
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, with excellent copywriting, copy editing and proofreading skills
  • The ability to write in plain English, removing jargon and management speak
