Business Services & Outsourcing Quality & Risk Associate

Ideas | People | Trust

We’re BDO. An accountancy and business advisory firm, providing the advice and solutions entrepreneurial organisations need to navigate today’s changing world.

We work with the companies that are Britain’s economic engine – ambitious, entrepreneurially-spirited and high‑growth businesses that fuel the economy - and directly advise the owners and management teams that lead them.

We’ll broaden your horizons

The Business Services and Outsourcing team are essential to meeting our clients' evolving requirements. As well as delivering long-term, sustainable value to businesses by providing a range of solutions such as accounting, payroll and compliance services, they also play a key role in tying together many of our services across BDO both domestically and internationally. By building deep and meaningful relationships with a range of clients from ambitious entrepreneurial SMEs to large multi-national groups, our BS&O team don’t just advise on their specific business challenges, they open doors for other teams to provide our firm’s wider service offering. To succeed in this agile environment, you’ll need to demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills and initiative. In return, you’ll have the opportunity for progression, and the chance to develop in one of the industry’s most exciting and varied roles.

We’ll help you succeed

Leading organisations trust us because of the quality of our advice. That quality grows from a thorough understanding of their business, and that understanding comes from working closely with them and building long-lasting relationships.

You’ll be someone who is both comfortable working proactively and managing your own tasks, as well as confident collaborating with others and communicating regularly with senior managers, directors, and BDO’s partners to help businesses effectively. You’ll be encouraged to identify and draw attention to opportunities for enhancing our delivery and providing additional services to organisations we work with.

Working within the Business Services & Outsourcing (BSO) Quality & Risk (Q&R) team, the candidate’s role will be assisting and supporting the BSO Q&R Associate Director and the wider stream in all regulatory and Q&R related matters.

The role requires an affinity for Q&R and is people facing.  The individual will be responsible for assisting and supporting the BSO Q&R Associate Director and other members of the BSO Q&R team with all aspects of Q&R matters, including contributing to ensuring the stream follows best practice and complies with regulatory requirements. The candidate will report to the BSO Q&R Associate Director and will support the national BSO stream.

The candidate should show a genuine interest in Q&R matters and be willing to learn and upskill themselves. The role involves significant interaction with BSO’s Partners and staff and the successful candidate should be able to take a step back, consider the bigger picture and consult with more senior team members prior to making decisions. The role offers a great opportunity for any individual with a passion for Q&R to develop their knowledge and skill sets and to begin to forge a career in this area

Responsibilities

The role and responsibilities undertaken by the BSO Q&R team continuously evolve. At least initially the responsibilities of this role are expected to include, but not be limited to:

  • Assisting with detailed Q&R work that the wider BSO business might need support with.
  • Contribute to the BSO Q&R Committee and various Q&R related working groups by ensuring that relevant matters are included on the agendas and actions are followed up.
  • Ensuring that more senior team members are kept in the loop of progress and possible bottlenecks.
  • Maintain the BSO Q&R Calendar.
  • Monitoring queries received through the BSO Q&R Portal and ensuring queries are allocated and responded to in a timely manner.
  • Assisting the BSO Q&R team in wider Q&R activities such as driving harmonisation and efficiencies across the business.
  • Involvement in ad hoc Q&R Projects.

Requirements

  • Hold GCSEs in English and Maths at Grades 9-4 (or equivalent).
  • Hold 3 A-Levels (or equivalent) at A*-C.
  • If holding a degree (not a requirement) a minimum of a 2.2 in any degree subject.
  • Excellent communication skills – both written and oral.
  • Willingness to work as part of a close-knit team and learn on the job.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with an ability to create productive relationships across BSO and the firm.
  • Ability to work constructively with stakeholders.
  • A conscientious and thorough approach with strong attention to detail.
  • Takes personal responsibility and accountability for own work.
  • Highly motivated with a desire to seek new ways of improving our service to our ‘internal clients’.
  • Past experience in the field, either at another firm or other regulatory body (preferred but not required).
