Ethics Senior Executive

The Quality and Risk Management Team (QRM) provides leadership, guidance, and tools to help partners and staff manage quality and risk matters. The team is comprised of an Advisory and Compliance Team, a Chief Information Security Office Team, an Economic Crime Team, a Legal Team including a Commercial & Contracts Team, the Independence and Ethics Team and the Regulatory Supervisory Team, plus the Quality Monitoring Team. The team works closely with the firm’s Technical Standards Group and the firm’s leadership.

You’ll be someone who is comfortable working pro-actively and, managing your own tasks, as well as confident collaborating with others and communicating regularly with Senior Managers, Directors, and BDO’s Partners. You’ll help deliver accurate and transparent reporting to all relevant stakeholders as you provide long term value. 

Working in the Ethics Team within the firm’s Quality & Risk Management Department, the candidate will provide firmwide support on Ethical and Independence matters.  The role will also involve some administrative related monitoring and control activities. The candidate will report to a Manager/Senior Manager and will work closely with a number of different teams across the firm.

The role would suit an organised, self-motivated and hardworking individual who preferably has had experience in working in a professional services firm. The Ethics Team are largely based in the firm’s London Office.

The Ethics Team provides technical support, training and quality control services on ethical, independence and auditing matters. Predominantly internally focussed and based in London, the department’s principal client is the firm’s audit stream but it also regularly interacts with non-audit streams such as tax and advisory.

Responsibilities of the role:

  • Responding to certain ethics and independence queries from people throughout the firm (mostly via the Ethics Helpline).  This may involve regular contact with senior members of the firm and assisting them in resolving their queries accurately, seeking further guidance where necessary.
  • Supporting the Ethics Team in monitoring activities.
  • Updating and maintaining the Ethics Log.
  • Assisting the Ethics Team with preparing training courses.
  • Involvement in projects with the wider department, the Quality & Risk Management Team and international BDO Network firms.
  • Providing assistance to the Ethics Team in updating project plans, the Ethics intranet and in managing updates to the internal communications and training strategy.
  • Providing general administrative and operational support to the Ethics Team.

You’ll be someone with:

  • Preferably degree qualified with some experience of working in a professional services firm
  • Excellent communication skills; both written and verbal
  • Takes pride in delivering accurate and high-quality work, Quality driven
  • IT literate with a high competence in MS Office (especially Excel, Word and Powerpoint)
  • Takes personal responsibility and accountability for own work
  • Ability to work with confidential information 
  • Accuracy and attention to detail essential
  • Enthusiastic / motivated / self-confident
  • High level of professional standards including integrity and professional behaviour

Whilst previous experience of audit, accounting or ethics and independence is helpful it is not compulsory as full training will be provided.
