In return, you’ll have unparalleled access to partners and opportunities to develop your career in many different directions as you work across a truly diverse portfolio of global clients.
We’ll help you succeed
Our clients trust us because of the quality of our advice. That quality grows from a thorough understanding of their business, and that understanding comes from working closely with clients and building long-lasting relationships.
You’ll be someone who can work pro-actively, managing your own tasks, but you’ll also be confident collaborating with others, communicating regularly with senior managers, Directors, and BDO’s Partners to enable us to serve our clients effectively. You’ll be encouraged to identify and draw attention to opportunities for enhancing our delivery and providing additional services to our clients.

The primary responsibility will be to deal with all matters relating to the management of a portfolio of clients – this portfolio will be split between advisory and tax compliance initially, but with a move to more advisory work in the longer term. You will also provide assistance to Partners/Directors and the wider manager team in both client work and in the management of the team and will be involved in special assignments on an ad hoc basis. Part of the role requires the individual to actively seek and be involved in business development and proposals working with Partner/Director and the manager team on opportunities arising from existing and new clients.
There will also be opportunities to work with other BDO tax specialists nationally and internationally.

There will be an expectation that you will take full responsibility for project delivery on their portfolio
Have a strong understanding of the technical complexities that our clients face and be able to provide clear, concise and practical advice
Manage a varied portfolio of clients commercially including control of billings and cash collection within the firms criteria
Review of work prepared by more junior members of staff
Liaise with HMRC
To ensure assignments are completed within agreed budgets and keep client/Partner/Director/Manager informed of overruns and plan staff assignments in order to give an appropriate spread of experience
Ensure that the firm’s quality control procedures are adhered to at all times
Identify risk and technical matters, as well as selling opportunities, to the Partner/Director/Manager group, whilst exercising judgement within agreed parameters.
Requirements

Demonstrable post qualified experience
Strong technical ability in the field of private client.
Guide and supervise less experienced colleagues.

I was really, really proud when I recruited the second ever Not for Profit tax person into BDO. But the proudest moments I ever get are when people that I work with get promoted. People who were graduates when I joined the firm are now directors and the part I've had to play in that has made it very fulfilling.
Paul Knight
Partner – Business Taxation, South East
I spent the summer of my second year at university doing work experience at a law firm, PR agency and BDO. I spent two weeks at BDO and by the end of it I already felt like part of the BDO family. I returned as a tax trainee following university.

I care about my job and I've always been dedicated, so I like that what I have to say is valued. In Tax, businesses will call you and ask for your expert opinion. I also like the flexibility and the trust I had from the very start, even as a trainee.
