The Quality and Risk Management Team (QRMT) at BDO comprises several sub-teams including the Legal Team, Enterprise Risk Management, Economic Crime, Quality Management, Ethics and Independence and Advisory and Compliance.It provides Partners and staff with the guidance, tools and support to enable them to identify and manage quality and risk issues.The QRMT is led by the Head of Quality and Risk Management Team, who is a partner who reports into the Head of Quality and Risk for the firm and sits on the BDO Leadership Team.

You’ll be someone who is both comfortable working proactively and managing your own tasks, as well as confident collaborating with others and communicating regularly with senior managers, directors, and BDO’s partners to help businesses effectively. You’ll be encouraged to identify and draw attention to opportunities for enhancing our delivery and providing additional services to organisations we work with.

The Economic Crime Group (ECG), led by the firm’s MLRO, is responsible for the implementation and monitoring of the firm’s compliance with UK Anti Money Laundering Legislation. The team consists of a partner and 6 members of staff.

In addition to its responsibility for AML compliance, the ECG also manages the firm’s response more widely with respect to all aspects of economic crime including tax evasion, fraud, bribery & corruption and sanctions.

As an Assistant within the Economic Crime Group, you will be responsible for a range of activities including:

  • Dealing with routine administrative tasks within the ECG
  • Maintaining logs of internal report received in respect of suspicious activities; Politically Exposed Persons & High-Profile Individuals; sanctioned clients; Chapter 5 applications, Annual Leave, weekly mailbox rota
  • Providing monthly management information for ECG Monthly Report & Annual Report
  • Supporting the Economic Crime Group managers and senior managers in responding to AML queries from across the UK firm
  • Assisting in documentation processes and policies underpinning the working of the ECG and the client acceptance processes for which the ECG is ultimately responsible
  • Liaising with our KYC teams and assisting with research into high-risk client acceptance and continuance forms
  • Consideration of different ‘red flag’ risks e.g., jurisdiction, sanctions, PEPs, adverse media
  • Working with BDO’s dedicated KYC shared service centre to monitor workflows and priority requests

Requirements:

  • A demonstrable interest in learning about the subject with potential scope for development
  • Prior experience in an anti-money laundering role is not required
  • Previous experience of office/administration skills is beneficial
  • Academic studies in a related discipline is beneficial
  • IT literate with competence in MS Office packages (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to proactively plan and organise work well, and ability to prioritise
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills; both written and oral
  • Ability to build strong relationships
  • Ability to work to deadlines, and to respond quickly
  • Accuracy and attention to detail essential
  • Ability to challenge current processes and implement efficiencies
  • Must be flexible and adaptable
  • Strong team working
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Enthusiastic / motivated / self-confident
