The Quality and Risk Management Team (QRMT) at BDO comprises several sub-teams including the Legal Team, Enterprise Risk Management, Economic Crime, Quality Management, Ethics and Independence and Advisory and Compliance.It provides Partners and staff with the guidance, tools and support to enable them to identify and manage quality and risk issues.The QRMT is led by the Head of Quality and Risk Management Team, who is a partner who reports into the Head of Quality and Risk for the firm and sits on the BDO Leadership Team.

You’ll be someone who is both comfortable working proactively and managing your own tasks, as well as confident collaborating with others and communicating regularly with senior managers, directors, and BDO’s partners to help businesses effectively. You’ll be encouraged to identify and draw attention to opportunities for enhancing our delivery and providing additional services to organisations we work with.

Root Cause Analysis (RCA) is a vital part of our commitment to continuous improvement to ensure high quality audits. RCA helps determining quality drivers. It is also a requirement under the International Standard on Quality Management (UK) 1 (ISQM1 (UK) 1), which requires Firms to perform RCA on identified deficiencies in their System of Quality Management (SoQM) to assess their severity and pervasiveness and design effective remediating actions. RCA can play a key role in evaluating findings and driving ongoing, proactive quality management.

Led by a partner, a solid RCA programme has been implemented over the last three years. The RCA team is looking for a Director to support the team. .

In this challenging and rewarding role you will:

  • Direct a large scale project across multiple areas of expertise.
  • Help the RCA partner raise awareness about the causal factors that impact quality and the best practices.This involves actively sharing insights , highlighting key causal factors, and discussing effective strategies to improve audit quality. By engaging in these activities, you can support the RCA partner in fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellence within BDO.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the Firm’s processes, controls and methodology that underpin quality and risk management in the Audit Stream and Firm-wide functional areas.
  • Support business owners define and implement more focused and relevant actions for timely remediation of findings and to help evaluating the effectiveness of these actions.
  • Anticipate and communicate changing requirements that will impact planned activities and priorities.
  • Build meaningful relationships with Senior Stakeholders in the Audit Stream and in the Firm’s Central Functions, which will help you to raise your profile in the Firm.
  • Support a high performing team, with different roles and responsibilities, to deliver the project and motivate them to achieve exceptional results.
  • Enhance your presentation and communication skills by preparing and assisting on presenting RCA reports to several Governance bodies.
  • Interacting with the UK Regulators, where relevant.

You will be someone who:

  • Has practical experience in audit, either as an audit practitioner or within an audit quality function. While experience in root cause analysis is a plus, it's not essential as training will be provided.Is a high performing individual with strong analytical skills and technical audit and accounting agility that have the determination to tackle challenging issues.

  • Possessesa challenging and sceptical mindset to explore and understand the factors behind positive and negativequality outcomes, including behavioural aspects.

  • Can drive creative thinking, connect ideas and insights from other projects into quality initiatives, and role model resilience while maintaining a calm demeanour under pressure.

  • Works well independently and collaboratively as part of a team and that are able to use their own initiative to identify and propose potential solutions.

  • Has strong communications skills, both oral and written, and is confident in engaging with a variety of senior stakeholders.

  • Demonstrates good project management and organisational skills.
