SSC Senior Associate - Team Leader

Ideas | People | Trust

We’re BDO. An accountancy and business advisory firm, providing the advice and solutions entrepreneurial organisations need to navigate today’s changing world.

We work with the companies that are Britain’s economic engine – ambitious, entrepreneurially-spirited and high‑growth businesses that fuel the economy – and directly advise the owners and management teams leading them.

We’ll broaden your horizons

Our Shared Service Centre team (SSC) provides essential support to a number of teams across our firm. As well as assisting on large-scale operations, beyond the capacity of a core specialist team, they provide the unparalleled expertise we need to keep moving forward. As part of this friendly department, you’ll have the chance to work on exciting projects and develop your skillset. There’s real opportunity, making it a great chance to use industry knowledge and experience to solve problems in your next career step, or it can be a place to learn if you’re just starting out. If you want to work on important projects and explore your potential, we’ll give you the friendly, supportive working environment to go far.

We’ll help you succeed

Leading organisations trust us because of the quality of our advice. That quality grows from a thorough understanding of their business, and that understanding comes from working closely with them and building long-lasting relationships.

You’ll be someone who is both comfortable working proactively and managing your own tasks, as well as confident collaborating with others and communicating regularly with senior managers, directors, and BDO’s partners to help businesses effectively. You’ll be encouraged to identify and draw attention to opportunities for enhancing our delivery and providing additional services to organisations we work with.

The role:

The firm are looking to recruit a Senior Associate - Team Leader to join the SSC Audit Hub, based in Liverpool.

This will be a challenging yet rewarding role where your main focus will involve overseeing the management of key systems and reports, analysing data to support decision-making, and provide leadership to team members. You will act as a point of contact for resolving issues and ensure consistency across the wider SSC operation. Collaboration with colleagues to align policies and procedures will be essential to achieving seamless integration.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Be responsible for managing and maintaining the SSC Audit MI, ensuring that all information is accurate and up to date by completing regular reviews and updates to keep the system running smoothly.

  • Analyse key data and identify trends to provide insights that support decision-making. Your ability to interpret data will help drive improvements and strategic planning within the team.

  • Act as a second line manager to Team Leaders, providing guidance and support to help them achieve their objectives.

  • Serve as a primary escalation point for requestors and stakeholders, addressing any issues or concerns that arise. Your problem-solving skills will be essential in resolving challenges efficiently and effectively.

  • Work to ensure consistency across the SSC Audit operation, maintaining high standards and uniformity in processes and practices, both technical and non-technical. Your attention to detail will help uphold the integrity of our operations.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, focusing on client service excellence.

  • Oversee and support the development of new projects and enhanced service lines.

You'll be someone with:

  • Proven experience in people management, having successfully managed a team.

  • Self-motivated with a positive ‘can-do’ attitude towards change and pro-actively imparting knowledge onto others.

  • A people, process, and client-focussed approach to work with a passion for understanding service delivery and balancing effectiveness & efficiency to achieve that.

  • First class stakeholder management and client relationship management skills – demonstrating empathy and understanding of working within a support function.

  • Motivated by high performance and success in terms of job satisfaction, in addition to leading ‘from the front’ and being pro-active.

  • Well presented with a professional level of communication – both verbal and written.

  • Good time management, organisation skills and the ability to prioritise and complete tasks with limited supervision.

  • Ability to work well in a team environment.

  • A strong desire to add value and actively contribute to the team and firm's culture.

  • Ability to use own initiative and take a flexible, firm but fair approach.

  • IT skills - strong working knowledge of MS Office and similar desktop applications.

  • Experience in a professional environment.

  • Excellent attention to detail.

  • IT skills - strong working knowledge of MS Office (i.e., Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams) and similar desktop applications.

  • Comfortable with delegating work to other team members.

You'll preferably have:

  • Experience in being relied upon as a subject matter expert.

  • Second-line management experience.

  • Demonstrable experience of previous mentoring/supervising and coaching through 1-2-1s.

  • Experience of audit confirmations/audit related tasks and processes.
